- 4 cups whole milk (or 3½ cups milk + ½ cup cream)
- ⅓ cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg (optional, for added richness)
- ¼ tsp salt

In a medium saucepan, mix rice, milk and salt. To bring a gentle boil on medium heat.
