  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored & sliced
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup cornstarch
  • tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions
 

  • In a medium saucepan, add water, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Whisk until smooth.
  • Place the saucepan on medium heat and stir continuously until the mixture starts to thicken, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add chopped apple and lemon juice. Stir to coat apples.
  • Cover and boil on low heat for 10-12 minutes, sometimes stirring, until the apple is tender, but not emotional.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extracts (if used).
  • Allow to relax for 10 minutes before using or storing.
  • Immediately or refrigerate in airtight container for 5 days.
